About
Hello fellow nature lover! My name is Olivia Cable-Barber, and I am stoked to be able to share my love of our planet with you through my photography, art, and as a divemaster in Monterey Bay, California.
My love of nature began with photography in the remote Peruvian Amazon where I began my journey in conservation multimedia and quickly developed into finding sustainable ways to share our beautiful world with others. I developed a green thumb, love of fungi and the potential ways in which plants and fungi could shape our future planet in sustainable ways. Once back home in Texas, I combined my passion for conservation and environmental restoration with art and began pressing the native pollinator plants I grew in my garden and foraging for fungi.
Having moved to Monterey for graduate school, I fell in love with the ocean and magnificent kelp forests. Spending most of my free time tide pooling, scuba diving, and learning about ocean and coastal resource management for my degree, my obsession with identifying every living species led to me learning how to press and preserve the seaweeds that washed up onto the shore. Soon realizing how beautiful these algae were as well as the vital role of carbon sequestration they have in our environment, my desire to inspire others to learn more about them grew.
My longing to be in the forest and ocean all day long despite having a day job resulted in attempts to recreate scenes from nature as pieces of art so I am never far away from the wild places which call to me.
